Mhari Sibeth
Mhari Sibeth is a 2D animation designer, specialising in digital painting and vector artwork.
Her previous work includes creating concept art and colour boards for Kino Bino’s BFI-funded short film ‘Of All The Things’. She has also been the creative lead on various animated projects for clients such as BBC Bitesize and the NHS.
In her free time, she is focused on improving her skills as a background artist and paints environments that have a magical and dreamlike quality to them.
Why I applied
I applied to the She Drew That mentorship scheme to develop more background pieces for my portfolio with a grounded project I could completely focus on.
Project Outline
Having direction and routine feedback from my mentor gave me the confidence to start working on more ambitious backgrounds and layouts.
The idea for my project came from digging out character designs from an old university assignment. Their stories took place in a coastal Scottish town with an abandoned observatory, but these environments I had never developed. With the help from my mentor, I wanted to focus entirely on the setting these characters inspired, and set up a world I could return to whenever I wanted.
"Lara Pickle, my mentor, was absolutely brilliant in answering all my questions on the creative industry. She gave me feedback that kept me focused and excited to keep working on my project each day. Although there are so many incredible learning resources on the internet, it can sometimes be hard to know where to start. Lara helped me identify the areas of my background art project that I should work on, and I feel so much more confident in the direction my artwork is going now. This mentorship was the boost I needed, and I’m very grateful I got to be a part of it!"
