Why I applied
My route into animation has been a little wonky, and so, in comparing myself to others that I look up to in the field, I’ve found I’ve lacked a bit of confidence in myself and my abilities. I applied to She Drew That because I’ve long admired the community that Hannah has created, and the talent that She Drew That has nurtured and celebrated. I knew the guidance and support from the mentorship would be invaluable.
Project Outline
“In the same year that I accidentally tore my nipple in half, my Mum had a mastectomy after her breast cancer returned for a second time.”
With a narrative driven by recorded conversation between me and my mum, I set out to work on a pitch deck for a documentary film that explores notions of femininity, mother/daughter relationships and loss. I aimed to tackle sensitive topics while maintaining playfulness within the visual storytelling.
"The She Drew That mentorship was so valuable to me. As my route into animation has been a little wonky and I’m still in the early days of my career, the validation and support from She Drew That and my mentor, Jocie Juritz, have given me the confidence boost I needed. Not to mention the practical advice and guidance in terms of direction, storytelling and the world of freelancing. With the help of She Drew That, I’m well on the way with the pre-production work for my first animated film that’s fully, written, directed and animated by myself. Highly HIGHLY recommend this programme."
